I've decided to let go of my beloved 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280se 4.5. In the time which I have owned it, it has been a simply wonderful car. Many memories and long road trips completed and this car has never letme down. Even though it is now a 41 year old car, it drives better thansome new cars. This was originally a Canadian car, then it was driven inWashington state for some time before making its way to South Dakota(surprisingly, the car is 99% rust free), where I purchased the car anddrove it back to Kansas. Anyway, being a Mercedes collector andenthusiast, I'm familiar with the six cylinder W108 models. They're finearound town, but if you want to do some serious touring, you need theV8specifically of the 4.5 variety. These cars love the highway. Andthey have plenty of torque for around town. The best of both worlds, inmy opinion. And if you're looking to turn heads, this car breaks necks.

The Mercedes 280se is finished in Mercedes 462 Tunis Beige Metallic. Itwas resprayed approximately 15 years ago and is only showing minor signsof wear. The tops of the front fenders have minor scratches and thecowl has evidence of previous touch up paint, as does the radiatorsupport. But overall, the paint is in great shape. With minimal effort,it could be made to be show quality. There are rust bubbles coming upbehind the paint behind both left and right front fenders. The areas aresmaller than a pack of gum. And it's merely surface rust. This is theonly rust on the entire car. The underside is spotless, as well as thenotorious rear wheelwells. The aluminum window trim is aged, but stillvery presentable. The brightwork is very good, and compliments the paintphenomenally.

This car has brown MB-tex upholstery, which is in perfect condition allaround. The wood has been refinished and looks great. And the dash iscrack free! If you've been around old Mercedes, then you know this is arare feat! The carpetsare in fine shape as well, with nothing alarming to report. The vacuumdoor locks work as they should. An aftermarket radio had been installedbefore I bought the car and works flawlessly. The doors shut in classicMercedes fashion: like a bank vault.

This is where the car really shines. I absolutely love driving this car.On nice sunny days, you can be sure I'll be driving this one. The 4.5liter electronic fuel injected V8 engine is full of life and is tuned upand is very responsive. The car starts with one brief crank and idlesstrong. All fluids and filters have been changed within the past year,as well as new tires, fuel pump, battery and horn. The differential wasoverhauled about 5 years ago. A discreet external engine fan has beenprofessionally installed under the dash for hot summer days. The fourwheel disc brakes work well, but a minor squeak can be heardoccasionally. The drivers window could use a regulator. The airconditioning works, but could use a recharge.

I really hate letting this car get away, but I'm looking for a biggerproject, and I have my hands full with my other Mercedes at the moment.I'm in no hurry to sell, and I want it to go to a good home where it isappreciated. These cars are supremely undervalued for what they are.
