If you are familiar with this vintage of Mercedes Benz, when you drive this, you will be pleased. Or, if you are unfamiliar with this vintage, this car will not disappoint. It is a handsome, stately vehicle that has a solid 20 years left in it if cared for. I have brought this car very up to date. Driving this car is fun. It's solid, smooth and feels great. I bought this in California. It has no rust. I am the 3rd owner, I believe. This is a cared for, up-to-date car.
Tinted Windows. (some of the photos are before I tinted the windows.) Chrome wheel well trim. Chrome door sills. Sharp!!
Body and paint excellent but not perfect.
Newer tires with many miles left on them.
Wheels could use an acid wash or a powder coating.
I have replaced all the door seals in the last year. The vacuum door locks, gas tank lock and trunk lock work in unison, as designed.
Color: Silver/Blue. Depending on the sunlight, it can look silver or blue. It's silver blue.
Interior: Dark Blue. Front seats have new pads and re-enforced springs, and feel like new. The rear bench is like most of these W116s: soft. The leather is quite nice, but better in the back. The front has more wear on the bolsters, and could use a re-dye. A few surface cracks. No tears. But its not faded. It's a matter of how far you want to take it if you re-dye. Rear hat tray carpeting is new. Headliner very nice. No sag. I have replaced the dash cover with an after market product. No cracks whatsoever.
Steering wheel: standard. The wood wheel in the photo has been removed.
Sunroof operates but I just don't use old Mercedes sunroofs, because if they break they are a hassle to repair or replace. So this sunroof has been used very sparingly to the point I'm not so sure how dependable it is.
Windows: One of the rear window regulators does not work. The other rear is okay. The front windows are fine.
Mechanical: Servo works. AC/heat: perfect. Clock works. New modern radio/blue tooth/plug in for Ipads, etc., state of the art. Antenna works. Lots of life left in the Bilstein shocks. The engine is as powerful as this year and model can get. (1980 was the year they built these with the lowest horsepower. Oh well)
New starter, flex discs, and extensive paperwork and receipts for everything else I have done to this car in the 18 months I have owned it. The best Marin County California Mercedes mechanics brought this car up to date for me. You can call them and ask them questions.
Reason for sale: I had some unexpected, recent surgery that changed my lifestyle and plans. I live in Mexico now. I have two other vintage Mercedes; one with me now in Mexico. I am selling my 1984 380 SL Roadster, also.
Terms: Escrow.com, or other arrangements that ensure I have collected funds before I relinquish possession.
